Getting to Big Sky is easy . . . and it is one beautiful trip!!
Scenic Gallatin Field, just outside of Bozeman, is the 7th busiest passenger airport in the Pacific Northwest with over 650,000 passengers using the facility every year. Delta, Horizon Air, Northwest Airlines, United Express, and Frontier (beginning May 22) provide daily non-stop service to Minneapolis/St. Paul, Salt Lake City, Denver, Chicago, Seattle/Tacoma, Boise and Butte. Winter and summer schedules also include non-stop service to Atlanta, Detroit, and San Francisco.
Bozeman to Big Sky is a 43 mile drive through some of the most scenic country in North America. The Gallatin Canyon has views of mountains, river, and wildlife that will make you catch your breath. Then, as you turn west from Highway 191 towards Big Sky, you are impressed even more. In front of you is Lone Mountain, looking like "America's Matterhorn" against the Montana sky.
Big Sky began as a ski resort carved out of wilderness in 1973 with an Arnold Palmer Golf Coursein the Meadow Village and ski lifts in the Mountain Village. It has grown to a warm and hospitable mountain community of more than 1500 full-time residents. This year-round recreation paradise is just north of Yellowstone National Parkand surrounded by National Forest and the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. Big Sky is free of most of the faux swiss-chalet look or the cowboy-look that colors many other western resorts. It's an honest place!
If you're looking for uncrowded skiing, Big Sky Resorthas it. With the addition of the Dakota Territory and Dakota Lift, Big Sky now offers over 3,800 acres and more than 150 named alpine runs. Looking for a challenge? Take Big Sky's tramand ski from the very summit of Lone Mountain itself (a jaw-dropping 11,166-feet).
Looking for something new? Just 1.7 miles from famed Big Sky Resort is the newest ski resort in North America. Moonlight Basinis now cooperating with Big Sky Resort to offer one of the few "joint tickets" available in North America. The new Lone Peak Pass offers skiers access to both resorts offering over 5500 acres and 24 lifts -- the most continuously-accessible terrain in the United States! Moonlight Basin is also building a magnificent new Jack Niklaus Signature golf coursethat will have playable holes in 2008.
Want to cross-country ski in some of the most beautiful country in North America? Lone Mountain Ranchwas named the top Nordic ski facility in the US. If you're after trophy trout, you can drive to several different blue ribbon streams in less than an hour. Like to snowmobile? West Yellowstone, Montana is the "snowmobile capital of the world" and is only about an hour away from Big Sky.
Let me and the agent-team at ERA share our passion for Big Sky and our local knowledge, skills, and expertise with you. My company has a 29-year history of bringing buyers and sellers together. We would enjoy helping you realize your Montana real estate dream.
